How goformative.com can transform your classroom

Do you ever feel like you just taught a great lesson but the students look confused and you just wish you could find out exactly what they know/don't know? Do you ever give an assignment and then get it back to find out that students were totally confused, and now they've left the room and you have to wait 2 days to go over it with them? Do you give quizzes and you get bogged down for a day (or 2 or 3) before you can grade them?

It is important to give students feedback that is timely and helps them improve. Goformative.com gives teachers that opportunity.

You simply create an activity that can include videos, images, text and PDFs as well as short answer, fill in the blank, multiple choice and draw a response questions. Students complete the activity and you, the teacher, watch their responses coming onto your screen in live time. Simply slide the scale to give them a score and write comments to give them hints and help steer them in the right direction. You can choose whether students see their scores while they work (good for practice, tell them to keep working and fixing until you give them full credit) or you can score them while they work privately (better for quizzes). You can later open up the assignment to them so that they can see their scores but not change their answers (good for quizzes).

You can also take away student names for a moment to show responses on the board and go over them together.

Formative is coming out with an update (relatively?) soon and this should allow the teacher to have some more options such as allowing students to see the answer key at a certain point or opening up the assignment to individual students. I look forward to this update because my students LOVE using goformative, especially for quizzes because they get feedback right away. I know that they would appreciate seeing the correct answer (or a sample correct answer) at a certain point!

Do you use goformative? How have you worked it into your classroom and what do you think?
